Education Enrichment

We are proud of the wide range of different societies and clubs on offer which run before school, during lunchtime and after school. Pupils are provided with the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports across the week at both lunchtime and after school. Sports offered across the year include football, netball, hockey, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, cheerleading, cricket and rounders.  Pupils are provided with the opportunity to compete in sports against other schools at both district and county events. Pupils who prefer to participate for fun are given the opportunity to participate recreationally in their favourite sport each week. Pupils are also encouraged to try a new sport, with our clubs being open to all pupils. Barclay Academy timetable for societies and clubs can be viewed here.

The Arts

For music, students can learn an instrument through our instrumental lesson programme. This includes both 1-2-1 and small group teaching delivered by a highly skilled team of peripatetic music teachers.

Students can take part in a range of ensembles, from beginner to more advanced including woodwind and strings group, guitar ensemble and KS3 and KS4 choir.

For drama, the students also can take part in a range of drama and dance activities outside of curriculum lessons; this includes joining our Performing Arts Company, Drama Group and Dance Company. These opportunities are to further develop student understanding and appreciation of how drama and dance can influence people's lives and evoke change.

For our talented artists, the art department offers a range of enrichment activities after school. This includes weekly workshops as part of after school provision. Throughout the year, a range of concerts, productions and exhibitions take place. This includes music concerts such as our annual carol concert, drama and dance showcases, whole school productions and our annual Key Stage 4 and sixth form art exhibitions. This allows students' work to be celebrated with members of their family, peers, and staff to showcase their hard work, effort and talent.

Trips

Throughout all years and departments, trips are organised to inspire and enable learning to come to life with awe and wonder.  These include visits to museums, art galleries and places of historical interest as well as UK and international residentials with destinations such as Belgium, Berlin, Poland, Iceland and Spain.

As part of enriching students’ understanding of the theatre, students are regularly offered the opportunity to see live theatre and take part in professional workshops. Students are given the opportunity to visit art galleries to further their understanding of a range of artists and techniques.
